Before you bring home a cat tree, measure the route
The available floor space matters, but the way a cat reaches and leaves a taller piece matters just as much.
Measure the footprint, then look above and around it. A tall piece needs a clear approach, room for a cat to turn and enough calm around the highest resting point.
Choose a wall or corner that is not in the middle of a busy door path. A cat may enjoy watching activity, but a resting perch feels less secure when people have to squeeze past it all day.
Before fixing or assembling anything, place a box with the same approximate footprint in the spot for a day. It is a simple way to notice whether the room still flows well for everyone.
